På internett annonseres ruter som prefikser: et autonomt system forteller naboene sine via BGP at det kan levere trafikk til for eksempel 158.36.0.0/14. Verktøyet slår opp et prefiks i vår daglige kopi av den globale rutetabellen og viser tre ting:
- Nøyaktige annonseringer: hvilket AS som er opphav til akkurat dette prefikset. Mer enn ett opphav (MOAS) er normalt for anycast-tjenester og noen nettverk med flere leverandører, og mistenkelig ellers.
- Dekkende ruter: mindre spesifikke annonseringer som inneholder det. Trafikken følger den mest spesifikke ruten, så en dekkende rute betyr noe hvis den mer spesifikke forsvinner.
- Mer spesifikke ruter: annonseringer inne i prefikset, som kan tilhøre andre nettverk (kunder – eller en kapring).
Hver annonserte rute sjekkes også mot RPKI: om en ROA autoriserer opprinnelses-AS-et.
Tabellen er utsynet fra APNICs rutekollektor. Det meste av den globale tabellen ser likt ut overalt, men en rute som filtreres før den når kollektoren, vises ikke.
Ofte stilte spørsmål
Hvorfor står ikke min /24, men en /16?
Adressene dine annonseres som en del av den større blokken, og ingen annonserer /24-en for seg. Det er det vanlige for de fleste kundene til en leverandør.
Hva er kapring med mer spesifikke ruter?
Noen annonserer et lengre prefiks inne i adresserommet ditt. Fordi rutere foretrekker den mest spesifikke ruten, går trafikken til dem. RPKI med en streng maksimal lengde gjør slike annonseringer ugyldige.
Kan jeg skrive inn én adresse?
Ja. Verktøyet viser da den mest spesifikke annonserte ruten som inneholder den.
